Observation

After an upgrade from Live Maps V1 to Live Maps V7/8 on System Center 2012 Operations Manager R2, Console Tasks can be missing from the Task pane of the OM Operations Console. The Task pane only shows a limited number of tasks. In for instance the context of an open alert, this can be limited to just the following tasks:


This issue is caused by the Presentation Summary Widget Management Pack that was previously installed with Live Maps V1 and is not properly removed with the upgrade to Live Maps V7/8.

Resolution

The easiest way to resolve this issue is by removing the Live Maps Presentation Summary Widget Management Pack(s).
This can be performed as follows:

  • In the OM Operations Console, remove the Live Maps Presentation Summary Widget from any Operations Manager dashboard (where applicable).
  • Delete the Live Maps Presentation Summary Widget Management Pack(s) using the 'Management Packs' node in the Administration pane of the OM Operations Console:

  • If an error is raised on 'Dependent Management Packs', visit this KB article on how to resolve these first.
  • Close and then restart the OM Operations Console.

The OM Operations Console will now show all the expected items in the Task pane again:


Live Maps Summary Widget Cleanup utility

As removing references to the Live Maps Presentation Summary Widget Library from other Managements Packs manually can be quite cumbersome, a Live Maps Summary Widget Cleanup utility has been developed that will perform the manual steps listed above for you.

The Dependencies tab on the properties of the Summary Widget Library will show you the Management Packs that are referencing this library:


The Live Maps Summary Widget Cleanup utility will remove the Live Maps Summary Widget from these dependent Management Packs and finally delete the Live Maps Presentation Summary Widget Management Pack(s) from Operations Manager:



After using the Live Maps Summary Widget Cleanup utility, visit each of the dashboards where the Live Maps Summary Widget has been used and select the 'Clear Contents' option on the area where the Live Maps Summary Widget used to be:


Prior to making any changes to the dependent Management Packs, an export of these Management Packs is made. The location of the backups made is shown in the feedback that the Cleanup utility provides. Whenever you feel that the changes made by the Cleanup utility are not correct, these backups can be imported to rollback the changes made:
