How do I create a Diagram Dashboard?

Live Maps Diagram Dashboards are ideal for representing combinations of monitored objects into logical groupings onto a dashboard. Diagram Dashboards allow you to create dashboards that can include geographic mappings, topological or logical network diagrams, floor plans, server-rack layouts.

Savision Live Maps Authoring Console

To create a Diagram Dashboard, launch the Live Maps Authoring Console and click Create Diagram on the Live Maps Start Page.


Click Next to continue.


Select the location of your Diagram Dashboard with your SCOM Monitoring folders. Select the name of the unsealed Management Pack for your Diagram Dashboard.


Enter a name for your Diagram Dashboard. You can use an existing SCOM Group to specify the objects membership in your Diagram Dashboard. This allows to you to quickly populate Diagram Dashboards with objects you have defined with SCOM Groups.


Click Next and Click Finish on the Diagram Dashboard summary screen.

Adding Monitored Objects to your Diagram Dashboard

Once you have finished the New Diagram wizard, your Diagram Dashboard will open in the Live Maps Authoring Console. Within the Live Maps Authoring Console, you will be able to edit your Diagram Dashboard’s appearance, browse for background images and insert SCOM Objects.

Right-Click on the Diagram Dashboard and select Page Properties.


On the Page Properties, you can select a Background from an existing image or select a background map image. Adjust the properties and click OK when finished. 

Adding SCOM Objects to your Diagram Dashboard

Objects can be added to your new diagram Explicitly or through Membership rules. Please refer to the following KB article on how to add objects. 

Adding Objects to a List/Diagram Dashboard

Group Members based on copied group membership rules are available to be dragged onto your Diagram Dashboard. Further, you can search for SCOM Components based on SCOM Classes in the Component section to the bottom left.

Add Performance Counters to your Diagram Dashboard

With Performance Counters, you can include objects to your Diagram Dashboard based on their performance metrics. In your Diagram Dashboard, select the Performance Counters tab and click Add Performance Counter…


Select a Class Type from which to draw the performance counters for your Diagram Dashboard.  


Depending on the selected Class Type, there are different Performance Counters that can be placed in your Diagram Dashboard. The Class Types available depend on the objects that have been included into your Dynamic Dashboard. Select a Class Type and click Next to view its available Performance Counters.

Select your Performance Counter Display Options and click Next and click Finish on the Summary screen. 


Once you have added Performance Counters to your Diagram Dashboard, you can view and edit within the Live Maps Authoring Console.

Click Save in the top right to save your Diagram Dashboard. You can preview your Diagram Dashboard by clicking Open in Web Portal.   



Viewing Diagram Dashboards in the Live Maps Portal

To view your Diagram Dashboard, connect to your Live Maps Portal Home Page and search or browse for your Diagram Dashboard by name.


Double Click your Diagram Dashboard to open it.

Within the Diagram Dashboard, Authorized user accounts can click the drop-down arrow in the top left and access SCOM Maintenance Tasks, Monitor States, SCOM Health Explorer and to generate static URLs.  


Click the Viewing Performance Counters displays the performance details. Further, you can view Performance Counter details over different time periods.


Adding Sub Dashboards or Convert your Diagram to a List

Within the Live Maps Authoring Console, you can add Sub-Dashboards to a Diagram Dashboard. This will allow you to create drill-downs to other dashboards you have previously created in Live Maps. Also, you can convert your Diagram to a List Dashboard in order to take advantage of List Dashboard features like Object Filtering.
