Objective: To upgrade any previous version to the latest version of Live Maps

WARNING: If you are currently on any Live Maps version 7.X or below, you MUST request a new license key from Contracts@Savision.com prior to upgrading to V8.x.

  • The order for upgrade is important. Please follow this guide for the order of events.  
  • No previous maps/views created will be affected during the upgrade process.  
  • This article will use the Self-EXE installer, however we do provide an ISO image for our customers if they wish to use that instead. 
  • This article was written as of V8.1, but the process should be the same for future versions. 
  • Once you upgrade the first Live Maps Authoring Console, you should upgrade all components or you may find that parts of Live Maps will not work. 


Before you begin it is recommended to take note of your current Live Maps Web Console setup. 

  • Open up and log onto the Live Maps Web console. This is more to take note if your current setup is Forms or Windows Authentication. Also note if you are running HTTP or HTTPS and any custom port. 
  • Next open up the "Live Maps Web Console Configuration. Key points to make note here are;
    • Settings tab - Management Server and OpsMgr Web Console URL
    • Drill down Configuration
    • Mobile app - This will only have information if this Web Console is used for the Mobile app. Please take note of the User and make sure you know the credential information. This will be a domain user that has Administrative privileges in SCOM. 

Begin Upgrade

1.  Authoring Console. First you must upgrade one of you Live Maps Authoring Consoles. It doesn't matter which one. 

  • Double-Click on the Downloaded software. This will bring up our Installer. 

    • From the installer, Click on the Install Live Maps Authoring Console link
    • It is a basic walk through on the installation. Click Next
    • Select "I Agree", then click Next
    • Click Next for the Installation folder. 
    • Click Next to Confirm Installation
    • Finally Click Close
    • Launch and log onto the Authoring Console, This will allow the Authoring Console to start updating the Live Maps management packs in SCOM. This process may take a couple minutes.
    • Once the Live Maps Authoring Console is up and running you may close it and continue on with the rest of the upgrade process. 

If upgrading from a V7.4 or below, you will also need to run a Powershell script to upgrade your current Live Maps Services to the new SLA format. This Powershell script can be found  in the root of the Authoring Console installation folder. It must also be run as a SCOM administrator. 


At this point you can move on to step 2. However you will need to upgrade all other Live Maps Authoring Consoles before they will work. 

2.  Operations Manager Extensions - These must be upgraded in order to see Live Maps views in your Operations Manager Consoles. Run this on any Server/PC with an Operations Manager Console. 

  • From the installer, Click on Install Operations Manager Extensions
  • Click Next
  • Click Next to Confirm Installation
  • After the installation is complete, click Close.
  • NOTE: You can continue on to the next step, but you will need to repeat this upgrade on all Servers/PCs that have the Operations Manager Console.If not they may receive an error or not have full Live Maps functionality when attempting to view a Live Map view. 

3. Live Maps Portal 

Note: As of V8.0, the Live Maps Portal is our primary web interface. If you have not previously installed the Live Maps Portal, please follow the instructions detailed in this KB article - Live Maps Portal Installation.

  • From the installer, Click on Install Live Maps Portal
  • Click Next
  • Check "I Accept the terms of the License  Agreement, and then click Next
  • Your decision on participating in Customer Experience Improvements, then click Upgrade.
  • Click Finish.

UPDATE- App Pool Credentials will also need to be added to a SCOM User role. At a minimum a Read-only user role that is group scoped only to the "Live Maps Portal Group" This will be required for generating Static URLs

Optional Component Upgrades

The following upgrade procedures are not required in every environment. That will depend on if you are currently using them or have a license to do so. 

4. Mobile Notification Service

  • From Services, Stop the Savision Live Maps Mobile Device Notifier.
  • From the installer, Click on Install Mobile Notifications Service
  • Click Next
  • Select "I Agree" and click Next.
  • Select the installation folder and click Next
  • Click Next to confirm the installation
  • From the System Center Operations Manager Credentials, add a SCOM administrator

  • Click OK
  • Once the installation is complete, click Close.
  • The  Savision Live Maps Mobile Device Notifier will start once the installation is complete.

5. Service Manager Integration

Note: When you are upgrading from a previous version there are a couple things you need to take into account. The
Service Manager integration that was part of Live Maps for 2007 version 6.2.2 and Live Maps 2012 version 1.2.2
synchronized maps and its members. Live Maps 7.0 will only synchronize services created with Live Maps.
All connector instances from the previous version will be removed during upgrade. You will need to re-create
them after the upgrade.

Business Services created with old connectors will NOT be removed during the upgrade but will NOT be kept upto-
date by the new connector. You can migrate your current maps into the Live Maps service model and select
the services in the new connector.

  • From the installer, click on Install Service Manager Integration
  • Click Next
  • Click Next to confirm installation
  • Once the installation is complete, Click Close

Service Manager Console Setups
  • Open the Service Manager Console
  • Go to Administration > Settings, then open up the Live Maps Settings
  • Enter in the URL for the Live Maps Web Console.
  • Repeat of all Service Manager Web Consoles

  • Open The Service Manager Console
  • Go to Administration > Connectors
  • Select Create Connector > Live Maps Service Connector
  • Click Next
  • Give your Connector a name like "Live Maps Service Live, then click Next
  • Enter the SCOM Server name
  • Select a set of credentials and then click Next, 
  • It will prompt you for the password for the credentials you selected, Type in the password and click OK.
  • Select the Live Maps Services you want to keep synchronized, and click Next.
  • Select the time of day to synchronize, and then click Next.
  • Click Create
  • Once the connector is created, click on Synchronize Now on the Task pane. Allow that process to finish to make sure there are no issues. 

6. ServiceNow Integration

  • Log on to the computer that hosts the Live Maps ServiceNow Integration Service. 
  • If you made changes to the ‘%ProgramFiles%\Savision\Live Maps for OpsMgr 2012\ServiceNow Integration\MappingXML.xml’ file make sure you copy it to a safe location.
  • If you don’t know the current configuration settings make sure you copy  ‘%ProgramFiles%\Savision\Live Maps for OpsMgr 2012\ServiceNow Integration\Savision.LiveMaps.ServiceNow.IntegrationService.exe.config’ to a safe location.
  • Run services.msc and stop the Live Maps ServiceNow Integration Service
  • From the installer, click on Install ServiceNow Integration
  • Click Next
  • Select the installation folder, then click Next
  • Click Next to confirm the installation
  • When prompted, enter in the following information; (Note: most of this information can be found in the MappingXML.xml and/or Savision.Livemaps.ServiceNow.IntegrationService.exe.config files

    • SCOM Management Server - Name or IP address of a SCOM Management Server 
    • SCOM Credentials - User name, password and domain of a SCOM user account that has permissions to read the services you want to synchronize. 
    • ServiceNow URL - URL of your ServiceNow instance. 
    • ServiceNow Credentials - User name and password of a ServiceNow user account that has enough permissions to create configuration items and relationships. 
    • Services to synchronize. - Here you can choose to synchronize all services or select the services that needs to be synchronized. 
    • Create CI’s if none exist - The Live Maps ServiceNow Integration service can create configuration items when they don’t exist in ServiceNow. By unchecking this checkbox it will only relate the configuration items with Business Services that are already exist in ServiceNow. 
    • Create known CI’s only - When this checkbox is checked only Live Maps components we know of are synchronized to ServiceNow. If this checkbox is unchecked all components are synchronized with ServiceNow and the unknown components are added as configuration item. 
    • Synchronize every - Here you can choose how often the Live Maps Services needs to be synchronized with ServiceNow. The default is 1440 minutes (24 hour)
  • Click OK.
  • Once the installation is complete, click Close
